The night of November 4th, I sat watching in anticipation as the electoral votes were being counted. This was really the first election I had participated in this way, I was really soaking everything in.
I noticed that only the two candidates Obama and McCain were being given any air time. I had hoped that an unprecedented amount of third-party candidate votes would start coming in, surprising the news media. No change came.
Somewhere before or after Obama was elected the 44th president of the United States, the media quickly let on that less than 1% of all the votes accounted for the third-party candidates. That wasn't even just the guy I voted for; that "less-than-one-percent" was all the third-party candidates combined.
